Emmanuel Agu is a two time National County Sports Meet Champion in Liberia.He won two gold medals in 2009 and 2010 respectively. He is one of the major competitors in the marathon on August 28.

Emmanuel Agu was born in Monrovia on the 9th day of July in 1992. He obtained his early education in Harper City, Maryland County. He hails from Ziah Town in Grand Gedeh County.

 

He was once a student of the Calvary Baptist School System and the Cathedral Catholic High School in Monrovia. He is a Christian worshipping with the Bethel Cathedral of Hope on Tubman Boulevard. Emmanuel believes that with God all things are possible.

 

He respects friendship and loves to make friends with people from all around the world to share experiences, beliefs, knowledge, values and culture.

 

Emmanuel started as a footballer. He was encouraged by his late manager, Francois, to take part in the 2004 Olympic Day Run in Monrovia. He participated and won the 4th place out of six hundred runners. He became impressed by his achievement and started aiming high in track and field competitions. His late manager once said to him that “you have the talent for the track.”

 

In 2005, he won 2nd place in a 10 km race. He also came first in the 2007 Bridge way 15km Race. He won 2nd place in a 12 mile run in the Gbarnga Marathon back in 2009 and won 2nd place in the National County Sports Meet in 2008/2009 and in 2009/2010 he won two gold medals in two consecutive years in the 1500m finals.

 

Shortly after that, he was called on the National Track and Field Team. Currently, he is preparing for the first ever marathon in Liberia to run a full 26km in order to meet the “B” scholarship for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).  He believes that this is a challenge, but with courage and experience, victory is certain.

 

Emmanuel Agu dedicates the marathon to his mother, Annie Myers, who constantly prays for his success in the competition.
