The university was founded on December 21, 1908 as Egyptian University and the focal point for all Arab Universities in Africa.
Today it is known as Cairo Unviersity with many sub-institutions, including its medical school which is known for its excellence. But unfortunately the university is way underfunded and overcrowded with its 155, 000 students in 2003 and over 160,000 students currently in 2009. There are groups of students whom succeed at Cairo University, but many students graduate from the university undereducated.
