Organization Details
DFGFI is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. We are committed to promoting continued research on their threatened ecosystems and education about their relevance to the world in which we live. In collaboration with government agenceis and other international partners, we also provide assistance to local communities, through education, training and economic development initiatives. DFGFI began in 1978, when Dr. Dian Fossey founded what was then called the Digit Fund. After Fossey's death, the Fund was renamed to honor her work and our commitment to carry on the gorilla protection and research programs she established. We have a very small administrative office in the U.S., consisting of 3 full-time staff and a few part-time helpers, and 2.5 scientists. In Rwanda, we employ a large staff (some 25-30 people) of scientists, trackers, anti-poachers and related staff.
