Yakubu Aiyegbeni, nicknamed 'The Yak', is a striker for the Nigerian national football team. He's the highest scoring African in English Premiership history.

After a stint in Portugal with Gil Vicente, Aiyegbeni established his reputation in Israel with Maccabe Haifa, scoring 24 goals in 50 appearances from 1999-2000 through the 2002-2003 seasons.

While at Maccabi Haifa, he went on loans spells in Hapoel Kfar Saba and Dynamo Kiev. He was particularly impressive in a loan spell in Porsmouth, scoring 7 times in 14 appearances, helping the team enter the premiership from Division One. So impressive, in fact, that he was then offered a fixed contract in the summer of 2004, which he accepted and went on to score 16 goalds in 35 matches during his first and only season.

He moved on to Middlesbrough and then Everton FC, where he now still plays.

Aiyegbeni's first game for Nigeria was against Namibia in the 2001 Cup of Nations Qualifier. He has scored 19 goals in 47 appearances for the country.
