Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei obtained a Bachelor's degree in Human Biology and a Medical degree (MB.CHB) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi,Ghana.
He went on to serve his medical residency in family medicine at Howard University Hospital in Washington,D.C.

Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to the US, he served as a medical practitioner, businessman and humanitarian both in Ghana and in the US.
From 1983 to 1985,he was a medical officer at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi,Ghana. He became the Clinical Coordinator at the National Clinical Research Center Inc from 1986 to 1993 and coordinated clinical trials with US Pharmaceutical companies in Bethesda,Maryland in the US. Later on he became Physician Partner at the Greenbelt Medical Center also in Maryland,USA from 1996 to 1999. Also, he was Physician Independent Contractor through Goodwin Corporation in Dewitt Army Hospital,Fort Belvoir,USA from 1999 to 2003. He opened his own Medical Clinic and was the Medical Director of Educe Medical Center in Alexandria,VA,USA from 2003 till he was appointed as Ambassador in 2004.


From 1996 to 2004, he traveled through the deprived areas in Northern Ghana and provided the people with free medical care at his own expense. As one of the leaders of the Ghanaian community in North America,he lobbied the US Congress, US State Department and the World Bank from 1996 to 2000 to ensure sustainability of democracy in Ghana.

He was Ghana's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Vienna and Geneva. He was also Ambassador to the Federal Government of Austria and the Federal Confederation of Switzerland.


In 1993,he coordinated the Howard University Medical Team's visit to Ghana. As Ambassador,he also helped to secure Ghana as the host of UNCTAD XII in 2008. Ghana also became a member of the International Organization of Migration (IOM) and the UN Commission for Refugees in 2005 under his watch.

Dr. Bawuah-Edusei was the Chair of the African Ambassadors' Group of the AU in Geneva in 2005. In 2004,he also led Ghana's delegation to the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Vienna. In 2005, he was Alternate Leader of Ghana's delegation to the World Summit on Information Society Summit in Tunis; the International Atomic Energy Agency's multiple Board meetings in Vienna from 2004 to 2006; World Health Assembly 2004 to 2006 and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Negotiations meetings including the latest Mutual Declaration Conference in Hong Kong which was in December,2005.

Ambassador Kwame Bawuah-Edusei was appointed Ambassador to the US on 5th September,2006. He is married with three children.
