The IUCN Regional office for southern Africa was established in Zimbabwe in 1987 to serve the southern African region in the development of skills in conservation and natural resource management. In southern Africa, IUCN - in partnership with its 69 member organisations - is developing, testing and demonstrating appropriate environmental and natural resources management systems. IUCN is also influencing and supporting the development and implementation of environmental and natural resources management policies at national, regional and global levels. In addition, IUCN ensures availability and understanding of environmental and natural resources management information and advocates for its increased use in decision-making.
