The Sierra Leone Civil War through the eyes of an American journalist who walks on the periphery meeting with those on the outside who engage it, either to save the country, make themselves into men, or merely to make money.  Beautifully written but too sappy in some points.  An interesting introduction to the notorious West African conflict that challenged Western notions of good and evil and its contemporary role in Africa's civil wars.
