The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is a series of novels by Zimbabwe-born (then Southern Rhodesia) author Alexander McCall Smith. As of 2007 the author has produced eight novels. The novels' star Mma Precious Ramotswe, the main detective at the agency, which is located in modern-day Gaborone, Botswana. The novels are as much about the adventures and foibles of different characters as they are about solving mysteries.
