Mohamed Diamé is a French-born Senegalese international footballer who plays for Wigan Athletic in the Premier League, as a defensive midfielder.

Born in Créteil, Diamé began his professional career in 2003 with RC Lens, but left four years later after facing health problems. After a full recovery, he signed for lowly Spanish side CD Linares in 2007,[4] and moved to Rayo Vallecano the following year,[5] helping the Madrid-based team to a mid-table position in the Segunda División, after being promoted in the 2007–08 season. During his time with Rayo it was reported that Spanish topflight giants Real Madrid and Barcelona were interested in signing the midfielder,[6] as well as Premier League side Arsenal.

In August 2009, Diamé arranged a deal with Premier League side Wigan Athletic, with the English club paying €3.8 million to Rayo, in a deal which also involved defender Antonio Amaya.[8] The transfer had earlier been temporarily put on hold, after alleged heart problems were found.[9] Diamé made his debut the same day as his transfer, in a 5–0 defeat to Manchester United.[10] He scored his first goal for Wigan against Sunderland on 6 February 2010.[11] In May 2011, it was reported that Sevilla were interested in signing the player.

On 22 March 2011, Diamé was called up to play for the Senegalese national side, which he qualifies for through his father, who was born in Dakar.[12] Diamé made his international debut later that month.
