Description of Work:

After being succesful in the Business Hichilema emerged in the political arena in 2005 following the death of Anderson Mazoka who was the leader of the UPND.

During the 2006 elections, Hichilema came third and most of the votes came from Southern Province where he comes from.

His party is thus regarded by many as tribalist but Hichilema has insisted on many occasions that his party has a national following and agenda.

Hakainde Hichilema (born June 4, 1962) is a Zambian politician and the President of the United Party for National Development (UPND). He replaced Anderson Mazoka after an interparty election, organized by functioning party president Sakwiba Sikota, which followed Mazoka's death in May 2006. He is also President of the opposition alliance United Democratic Alliance (UDA)

Hichilema was born in Hachipona village, Monze West, in Chief Hamusonde's area. Hichilema is married to former office manager Mutinta Hichilema, together, they have three children, daughter Miyanda, and sons Habwela and Chikonka.
