Beijing, where she figures to contend for the gold medal in the women's
800m. Jepkosgei will attempt to become the first Kenyan woman to win a
middle-distance gold medal at the Games.Jepkosgei made Kenyan history at the 2007 world Championships in Osaka,
where she won gold in the 800m, becoming the first female Kenyan
middle-distance runner to do so. She led the race from start to finish,
and won with a time of 1 minute, 56.04 seconds, beating the Kenyan
record and world leading time of 1:56.18 she ran in the qualifying
heats two days earlier. Jepkosgei won eight of the 12 races she ran on
