Jerome Mendouga became ambassador of Cameroon to the United States on June 23, 1994.
Born Aug. 15, 1938, in Yaounde, Cameroon, Ambassador Mendouga is married with six children. He has a bachelor’s degree in government/international affairs from George Washington University, and certificates from American University and Johns Hopkins University.
After receiving his B.A. degree from George Washington University and certificates in diplomacy from American University and Johns Hopkins University , Mendouga served Cameroon in diplomatic posts in Canada , Germany , the Soviet Union, Ethiopia , the Benelux Countries and as Special Envoy to the European Common Market in Belgium . He was appointed as ambassador to Senegal , Zaire , Burundi and Rwanda .
In addition, Mendouga has held posts as Special Envoy to the United Nations and as President of the Board of Directors of the International Eye Foundation in Washington , D.C.
Mendouga’s decorations include officier de l’Ordre de la Valeur (Cameroon), grand officier de l'Ordre National du Lion (Senegal), and Commandeur de l’Ordre National du Leopard (Democratic Republic of Congo).
