Welcome To University Bosaso The University is situated outskirts of Bosaso town, the commercial hub of the Puntland State, Somalia. It’s on the main Bosaso-Garowe highway, next to the government Prison and Panorama hotel, accessible by public means. With a sizeable compound of 250 by 150 meters, the academic blocks lay next to each other apart, side by side like twins while the administration block adjacent to them. There are eight classrooms, a computer lab and a library within the academic blocks. The education services in Puntland state of Somalia need total overhaul since the collapse of the former Somali government. The civil upheavals and the influx of the internally displaced people need restoration of hope in education sector. The University of Bosaso’s mission and vision is committed to the development of human skills throughout with affordable education for all, necessary for sustainable human livelihoods. The Institution recognizes the need for significant transfer of information technologies, researched works to rural and urban people who are under the umbrella of reconstructing the country. The Participatory Learning and Action approach into development of skills, help bridging the gap by equipping the local communities, organizations and individuals to address the problems identified. The institution works with the local community to improve quality, consistency of newly and unique existing programs, certified by International academic bodies. The curriculum contents of the University’s syllabus, reflects quality education offered in the effort to bridge between the immediate basic needs and long term educational development. The strategy of providing educational opportunities for than 3000 adult students in Puntland has also attracted other stakeholders who affiliate with the institution as mentors, Universities like Kenyatta University in Kenya which over the years have transformed thousands of candidates into professionals. The University’s short term plans are to provide and expand its academic programs to meet the diverse academic requirement of the community. This involves introduction of academic programs such as business related courses and journalism. The University’s long term strategic plan is to expand and improve up to the international standards the existing bachelor’s degrees, introduce Masters Course and PhD alike. There are already set up course outlines under which such courses will be conducted.

University’s Strategic plan

The University of Bosaso is in the process of developing ten years strategic plan, it is now in its final stage. What will include development of dynamic and state of the art lecture halls, well established and equipped library and computer center.

Expansions of the current academic programmes and faculties to reflect the growing higher educational needs and demand in our society and regional reach.

To open fully functional and well equipped campuses in Garowe, Galkaiyo and Kardo, where our distance learning students are currently concentrated.

Forming stronger, reliable and sustainable partnership with leading regional and international universities, government institutions and departments, International agencies and local communities includes NGOs.
