Organization Details
The Forum on Early Warning and Early Response initiated the Great Lakes Early Warning and Response Network (GLEWN) as a pilot project in mid-1998. The network brought together peace-building national and international NGOs in east Africa with Africa Peace Forum (AFPO) coordinating their activities. Initially, the network focused on the collection of information and production of early warning reports to highlight different aspects of the conflicts in the region. The reports were tailored to offer policy options to both local and international actors. The second stage of the network is focusing on the capacity of NGOs in the region to inform their actions and to increase their capacity to prevent violent conflict.
