This hotel boasts the fact that Ghandi stayed here. It is good value at the cost of approximately $25.00 USD per night for a double room. It is a simple and relatively clean backpackers hotel in the heart of Addis Ababa. Ghandis is within easy walking distance to a movie theater, grocery store, major markets and several tourist sites. The downstairs restaurant is slow but friendly and very accommodating, even creating vegetarian meals for us not listed on the menu (a lentil patty!) and serving excellent coffee. The bar is lively, fun, and a great mix of guests and locals. They also have an Indian restaurant on the third floor that serves up fresh and spicy meals. In the lobby, the hotel has strong (by Ethiopia standards) internet access, and even an internet cafe with six terminals, making it a great option for budget travelers. But beware there are a few downsides: the hot water didn’t work our entire stay and some of the rooms are close to ground level with flimsy windows that seemed easy to break into.
