This is the entrance to the Hotel Des Mille Collines, made famous by the movie "Hotel Rwanda." It is a very upscale hotel, with room prices comparable to those of a nice hotel in the United States. The Mille Collines is worth a visit whether or not you plan to stay here, due to its history. It was a major place of refuge during the 1994 genocide, and was a preliminary headquarters of the UN mission here. Today it offers an excellent restaurant with panoramic views of Kigali's "thousand hills" and a popular poolside bar on the hotel's sprawling green lawn. It is an elegant, and indeed haunting, place.
