Kigali, Rwanda -- Bruce Hamilton

Kigali, Rwanda — Bruce Hamilton

This is Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Kigali sprawls throughout many hills and valleys (Rwanda is known as the land of a thousand hills) and the landscape here is brilliantly green. There are no skyscrapers here, and in many ways Kigali feels more like a large town than a city: its streets are wide and immaculately clean, and all throughout the city are spectacular views of the surrounding terrain. City center, perched on a tall hill, has a very open and relaxed feeling. It is a very safe city, probably the safest in the region, and it is certainly the most beautiful. Highways meander along the edges of the hills, crowded with motorcycle taxis. Fog frequently rolls in through the valley, blanketing the city in a peaceful mist. It is hard to overstate the spirit, vivacity and serenity of Kigali.
